Technology has grown exponentially over the last 20 years and has made a tremendous impact on how we grow our businesses, so lets take a look at some great on-line tools for your business

Cloud technology. There are a plethora of services that are based on cloud technology. "Cloud" is really a metaphor for an internet network and its underlying infrastructure. Typical cloud computing providers deliver common business applications online which are accessed from a web browser, while the software and data are stored on servers. These servers construct a server network which includes the cloud computing provider as well as the users.

This has provided us, the small business owner, with some extremely useful and robust business applications and at Planning for Life we wanted to share with you our top 3 applications:

Dropbox - online document storage that is easy, and robust.

This tool is simple to use because the application creates a folder directory on your hard-drive that is available and accessible just like any other folder. Within this main folder you can create, add and share folders across your business or with other colleagues as you wish, and you chose who has access to which folders.

All you have to do is download and install Dropbox on all your computers and works in a cross-platform environment. When you create, add or edit documents in the Dropbox folder it instantly synchronises across all other folders.

Evernote - note taking and idea collation all in one place.

You often have ideas that you just want to jot down, or web pages that you want to copy, and even emails or tweets that you want to remember to use later. Well that is just some of the things that you can do with just a couple keystrokes using Evernote.

This application allows you to collate all of your ideas. Tag them for easy reference and put in folders for fast retrieval. The application is cross-platform and immediately synchronises when a note is updated or created on another machine.

Delicious - website book marking on steroids.

A tool that simplifies bookmarking the sites you are interested in. You can tag them for easy reference later, or provide a full description of what attracts you to the website and then you can chose to share or network with others who are interested in the same sort of information.

This is a cross-platform tool that can be used primarily in the cloud or embedded within your browser for easy reference. On occasion, Delicious has been referred to as a research assistant. Using the networking and sharing facilities it is easy to gather information from other users with a similar interest or researching the same topic. As a Delicious user you can also learn from the many other sites that have been bookmarked by other users.

With all of these applications the beauty of the cloud is that if your computer crashes or is lost or stolen, you never need to worry about accessing your data. All you need is a browser and internet access. Just go to the respective website, and using your login details, you can access all the information as if you were sitting in front of your own computer.
